Group Fitness That Actually Coaches You

There’s a particular kind of group fitness experience that has dominated the industry for the last decade: forty people in a dim room, a microphoned instructor at the front, music loud enough to drown out coaching cues, and exercises that get harder for the sake of harder rather than for the sake of stronger. That model burns calories. It does not build bodies.

The group fitness programs at Camryn Elyse Fitness are built on a different premise. The maximum group size is four. Programming is phased, progressive, and structured the same way a 1:1 strength program would be, just delivered in a setting where the energy of training alongside other women adds something a solo session can’t. You get real coaching, real progression, and real community, in proportions that don’t cancel each other out.

Why a Four-Person Cap Changes Everything

Why a Four-Person Cap Changes Everything

The size of a group fundamentally shapes what coaching can happen inside it. With twenty or thirty people, an instructor can demo movements but cannot correct individual form. With six or eight, attention is split too thinly to catch the subtle compensations that actually matter. With four, every set gets watched. Every cue lands on a specific person. Every progression is calibrated to the individual lifting in front of you.

Z

Real form coaching

Hands-on cueing, position adjustments, and the kind of feedback that makes the difference between a squat that builds your glutes and one that grinds your knees. You won’t get this in a 30-person class.

Z

Programming that progresses you

Phased strength cycles that build week over week, not random workouts strung together. The same logic that drives a 1:1 program shapes the group programming, scaled to accommodate four people at slightly different starting points.

Z

Community that holds you accountable

Training alongside the same handful of women builds a quieter, deeper kind of accountability than a giant class can deliver. You notice when someone’s missing. You celebrate when someone hits a PR. You become the reason they show up tomorrow.

The same coaching principles that shape every group session - progressive overload, mind-body integration, joint-friendly programming, and real accountability - underpin everything I do as a coach. See how each format fits into a  longer-term strength practice.

Group strength training is one of the most well-studied forms of resistance training, and the consensus is unambiguous about its benefits for adults of every age. See the CDC’s guidance on adult muscle-strengthening activity. >

How Group Programming Works at Camryn Elyse Fitness

Small Group Fitness Classes

Programming runs in phased strength cycles, with progressive overload tracked over weeks and months. Class booking is handled through PunchPass.

This is the easiest entry point if you want structured, expert-led strength training in a group setting without committing to a full 1:1 schedule. Read the full small group fitness classes details, schedule, and pricing. >

Semi-Private Personal Training

Train with one to three friends on a schedule that works for the group. Most semi-private clients meet twice a week, with sessions priced at $75–$85 per person depending on session frequency.

This format is ideal for groups of close friends, sisters, or training partners who want the cost efficiency and motivation of training together with the customization and attention of personal training.

Strength and Conditioning

The emphasis is on building muscle through compound lifts - squats, deadlifts, presses, rows, pull-ups - progressed responsibly over months. Conditioning is integrated thoughtfully (not as cardio for its own sake, but to support the strength work and overall capacity), with attention to the difference between productive intensity and the kind of grind that wrecks recovery and joint health.

Mobility Training

Mobility work is woven into every group session. Joint-specific warm-ups address the most common restrictions for women in midlife, and mobility-focused movements appear throughout the strength work itself. The result is more available range of motion, better positions in your lifts, and the kind of resilient joints that hold up to decades of training.

Core Strengthening

Real core strength shows up in how you brace under a loaded barbell, how your spine handles a heavy carry, and how your pelvis and ribcage stay organized through dynamic movement. Every group program integrates anti-extension, anti-rotation, and loaded-carry patterns that build the deep stabilizing strength that protects your back and supports every other lift you do.

What Clients Say

What Makes the Coaching Different

Camryn_elyse_fitness_for_woman

Yoga-Informed Strength Training

Fifteen years of yoga practice and a four-year run as a Registered Yoga Teacher shape every lift I coach. Breath, bracing, and posture are integrated from day one, not bolted on afterward. The result: stronger lifts with less injury risk, better long-term joint health, and a deeper relationship with your own body rather than a fight against it.

Real Credentials, Real Continuing Education

ACE-Certified Personal Trainer (since 2023). Master Certified Health Coach (since 2025). Plus a four-year stint as a Registered Yoga Teacher and a degree from Boston University. Your program reflects current research on female physiology and aging, not what was trendy a decade ago.

Tracked Progress, Honest Conversations

Even in group programming, your strength gains are tracked rep by rep through Trainerize. You can see your own progression over weeks and months, and we check in regularly on the quieter biometrics - sleep, stress, joint health - because those tell the real story of whether the work is working.

Where Group Sessions Happen

All group fitness programming runs out of the studio at 4030B Sports Arena Blvd in San Diego’s Midway district, just minutes from Point Loma, Ocean Beach, Mission Hills, Bay Park, and Mission Valley. Clients also drive in from Hillcrest, Bankers Hill, Balboa Park, North Park, Mission Beach, Pacific Beach, Little Italy, and Downtown.

Parking is straightforward, and the location was chosen specifically so a 50-minute class doesn’t turn into a 90-minute commitment.

The Camryn Elyse Promise

I don’t make guarantees about how many pounds you’ll lift or lose, because every body is different and lasting change isn’t a 12-week sprint. What I do promise:

Group sizes stay capped at four. Period.

Programming is phased and progressive, not improvised. You’ll know what you’re working toward and you’ll see the metrics move.

If at any point the group format isn’t the right fit - if you need 1:1 attention, or your schedule doesn’t match the class times, or the group dynamic isn’t working for you - I’ll tell you and we’ll find a format that does.

Every coaching relationship starts with a 20-minute phone call. No pitch, no pressure - just a conversation about what you’re looking for, what’s worked and hasn’t worked before, and whether group programming, semi-private, or 1:1 is the right starting point for what you need.

Strength is a long game. I’ll meet you where you are, and we’ll go from there.
