Eat for Performance, and Aesthetics Will Follow
Most women have spent decades being sold the wrong nutrition advice. Eat less. Cut carbs. Skip breakfast. Try this cleanse. Drink this shake. Aim for the smallest body you can sustain on the fewest calories you can stomach. The result has been a generation of women who are simultaneously underfed and undermuscled - chronically tired, metabolically blunted, hormonally disrupted, and convinced their body is the problem when the actual problem is the protocol.
Nutrition coaching at Camryn Elyse Fitness starts from a different premise. The goal isn’t the smallest version of you. The goal is the strongest, most energized, most metabolically resilient version of you. The one with enough lean muscle to carry you well for the next forty years. Body composition follows. Body confidence follows. The aesthetics, when they come, are a byproduct of being well-fed and well-trained, not the prize at the end of a starvation contest.

Why Nutrition Coaching Lives Alongside Strength Training
Strength training without adequate fuel is a half-built program. The work you do under the barbell only translates into actual muscle when the protein is there to support synthesis, the calories are there to support recovery, and the daily habits are there to make consistent intake possible. Three principles drive every coaching relationship:
Protein is the non-negotiable
Research consistently shows that women in midlife and beyond need significantly more protein than the standard RDA suggests — closer to 1.0–1.2g per kilogram of body weight per day to actually preserve and build muscle. Protein optimization is the first lever I pull, before any conversation about cutting calories. For most women, dialing in protein alone produces meaningful changes in energy, satiety, and body composition over weeks.
Calories matter, but quality and timing matter too
How much you eat shapes weight; what and when you eat shape body composition, energy, sleep, and how you feel showing up to your training. Getting these dialed in is more useful than chasing a number on a scale. Most coaching adjustments happen at the level of distribution and timing, not just total calories.
Habits beat plans
Meal plans fall apart by week three. Habits — protein at every meal, planning instead of grazing, eating enough at breakfast, drinking enough water before coffee — compound for years. Nutrition coaching here is built around the small, repeatable behaviors that hold up to real life. Long after the macro tracking ends, the habits remain.
Nutrition coaching is one of several pathways within the broader nutrition and macro-coaching work at Camryn Elyse Fitness. The full landscape of options — macro coaching, personalized nutrition plans, body composition work, and sustainable weight management — is described on the Nutritionist category page.
If you want to see the underlying research, a recent NIH-published study comparing protein intakes in older women found that a moderately higher protein intake (1.2 g/kg/day) produced significantly better muscle mass preservation, strength gains, and body composition outcomes than the standard 0.8 g/kg/day RDA. The findings reinforce what most evidence-based coaches have been saying for years: the standard recommendation is set too low for women trying to preserve and build lean mass through midlife and beyond.
How Nutrition Coaching Actually Works
Nutrition coaching is delivered as an add-on to in-person or online personal training, on a recurring monthly cycle. Every nutrition coaching relationship includes a defined set of components and rhythms:

Initial Nutrition and Lifestyle Assessment
New clients begin with a thorough intake covering current eating patterns, training schedule, sleep, stress, life context, body composition history, prior dieting experiences, and goals. The assessment is the foundation everything else is built on.
Personalized Calorie and Macro Targets
Targets are calibrated to your body composition, training intensity, age, life stage, and the goals coming out of the assessment.
Detailed Weekly Food Log Review
Clients log food daily through MyFitnessPal, which integrates with Trainerize so I can review the week’s data alongside training.
Ongoing Habit Coaching
Habit coaching uses the science of behavior change to help you build the specific habits that support the body and life you’re working toward.
Weekly Written Check-In Feedback
Every Friday, you send me your check-in. By Sunday afternoon, I send back written feedback based on your nutrition, your training, and how your week went.
Unlimited Messaging Support
Between calls, you have unlimited messaging access through Trainerize.
Pricing and Commitment Structure
Nutrition coaching is priced at $199 per month, billed alongside whatever training service it’s paired with. There is no separate setup fee, no additional software cost, and no hidden charge.
Three-Month Minimum for First-Time Nutrition Clients
First-time nutrition coaching clients commit to a three-month minimum. This is non-negotiable, and it’s deliberate. Real changes in nutrition behavior, body composition, and your relationship with food don’t happen in 30 days.
The first month is mostly assessment, dialing in targets, and getting tracking infrastructure in place. The second month is where the iteration starts to bite. The third month is where most clients first see the kinds of changes that hold.
If you’re looking for a 30-day reset or a 6-week challenge, this isn’t the right service. If you’re looking to actually change how you eat for the rest of your life, three months is the absolute minimum effective dose.
Required Pairing With Training
Nutrition coaching is offered specifically as an add-on to 1:1 In-Person Strength Training or Online Personal Training.
It’s not sold as a standalone service. The reason: nutrition and training shape each other constantly, and the coaching is meaningfully more effective when the same coach is watching both, the food logs and the lift numbers, the protein intake and the recovery quality, the calorie target and the stress load.
Who Nutrition Coaching Is Right For
You’ve Been Strength Training but Not Seeing Body Composition Change
This is the most common reason women come for nutrition coaching. The lifting is happening. The food isn’t supporting it. Usually the issue is too little protein, too erratic intake, or under-eating during the day and overshooting at night. Dialing this in is often the difference between lifting that produces visible muscle and lifting that just maintains.
You’re Tired of Diet Cycles
Restrict, lose, rebound, restrict, lose, rebound - the cycle is exhausting and ruinous for muscle, metabolism, and self-trust. Nutrition coaching builds the durable, non-restrictive infrastructure that ends the cycle: enough protein, sufficient calories to support training, gradual adjustments rather than crashes, and habits that hold.
You’re Navigating Perimenopause or Menopause
Hormonal shifts in midlife change how the body responds to food, training, sleep, and stress. The protocols that worked at 30 don’t work at 45 or 55. Nutrition coaching for perimenopausal and menopausal clients prioritizes protein optimization, blood sugar stability, and the specific dietary levers that support healthy aging through hormonal change.
You Want a Coach Watching Both the Food and the Training
Most clients can find a coach who handles training. Most can find a coach who handles nutrition. Finding both in one person, with the integration that comes from watching all the inputs together, is rare and it’s the thing that makes the work meaningfully more effective.
When Nutrition Coaching Is Not the Right Fit
Honesty matters more than booking every prospect. Nutrition coaching at Camryn Elyse Fitness is not the best fit if any of these describe you:
You have a diagnosed eating disorder (active or in recovery). This requires clinical care from a Registered Dietitian and a therapist with eating disorder specialization. Health coaching is not a substitute and can be counterproductive.
You have a medical condition that requires therapeutic dietary management - type 1 or 2 diabetes requiring medication adjustments, kidney disease, severe food allergies, etc. These need clinical nutrition therapy from a Registered Dietitian, often working alongside your physician.
You’re looking for a meal plan you can hand off and follow. I don’t write meal plans. The coaching is built around teaching you to make decisions, not handing you a script.
You’re looking for a 30-day reset or a quick fix. The minimum commitment is three months, and the work is built around durable change, not short-cycle results.

Honest Scope of Practice
This deserves explicit clarity. I am a Master Certified Health Coach (since 2025) and an ACE-Certified Personal Trainer (since 2023). I am not a Registered Dietitian (RD), and I do not practice medical nutrition therapy or treat clinical conditions.
What I do practice is evidence-based nutrition and behavior coaching for healthy adults pursuing strength, body composition, and lifestyle goals. The scope is real coaching - personalized targets, food log review, habit work, behavior change methodology - within the boundaries of non-clinical wellness work.
If your situation calls for clinical nutrition therapy, I refer out. That’s how scope of practice should work, and it’s how I keep the coaching honest.
What Makes My Coaching Different

Nutrition and Training in the Same Place
Nutrition and strength training shape each other constantly.
When the same coach is watching both - the food logs and the lift numbers, the protein intake and the recovery quality, the calorie target and the stress load - adjustments happen faster and the results compound more reliably.
Real Credentials, Honest Scope
Master Certified Health Coach (the most rigorous tier of health coach certification, grounded in evidence-based behavior change methodology) plus ACE-Certified Personal Trainer plus four years as a Registered Yoga Teacher.
The coaching reflects current research on female physiology, nutrition, and aging - not influencer protocols and not what was trendy a decade ago.
Habit Coaching, Not Diet Plans
Most of the real change happens at the level of habits.
Weighing your protein once doesn’t change you; building the habit of planning protein into every meal does. Tracking your macros for one week doesn’t change you; learning to estimate them by eye over six months does.
The coaching is structured around the small, repeatable behaviors that, layered over time, become how you actually live.
What Clients Say
Where Nutrition Coaching Happens
Nutrition coaching is delivered remotely through Trainerize, with 30-minute coaching calls held by phone or Zoom.
That means clients anywhere can access the coaching, though most of my nutrition clients are also doing in-person training at the Sports Arena Blvd studio in San Diego’s Midway district, minutes from Point Loma, Ocean Beach, Mission Hills, Bay Park, Mission Valley, Hillcrest, Bankers Hill, North Park, and the surrounding neighborhoods.
The Camryn Elyse Promise
I don’t make guarantees about how many pounds you’ll lift or lose, because every body is different and lasting change isn’t a 12-week sprint. What I do promise:
No restrictive plans, food rules, or eliminations beyond what your body actually needs. Coaching is built around what you can sustain, not what looks good in a marketing photo.
Your progress will be tracked monthly across body composition, training metrics, and the daily habits we’re working on. You’ll always know whether the work is working.
Honest scope. If your situation calls for clinical nutrition support I can’t provide, I’ll tell you and refer you to someone who can.
