The Work That Happens Between Workouts
There’s a particular pattern I see in clients who come to me already exhausted: they’re training hard, they’re trying to eat well, and yet nothing seems to be working the way it should. The energy isn’t there. The sleep is fractured. The stress runs underneath everything like a hum that never quiets. They blame the workouts, the food, sometimes their bodies — when the actual missing variable is the part of life that happens between sessions.
Health and lifestyle coaching is the work of looking at the whole picture. Sleep quality. Stress patterns. Recovery rhythms. Daily habits. The ways your body, your schedule, and your nervous system are interacting on a Tuesday at 4pm — and what small, repeatable changes will actually move the needle. Strength training is one lever. Nutrition is another. Lifestyle is the third, and for most women in midlife it’s the one that’s been most neglected.

Why Lifestyle Is the Multiplier
Three forces shape how your body actually feels and functions, and they compound in both directions. Get them right and your training and nutrition work harder for you. Ignore them and the best programming in the world stalls out. The three:
Sleep is the recovery substrate
Strength is built during recovery, not during training, and the deepest recovery happens during sleep. Chronic short sleep blunts muscle protein synthesis, drives up cortisol, increases hunger hormones, and undoes a meaningful chunk of the work you’re putting in everywhere else. Sleep coaching isn’t a luxury — it’s a force multiplier.
Stress is the silent saboteur
Chronic stress — work pressure, caregiving load, the cumulative weight of “doing it all” — changes how your body partitions energy, stores fat, regulates hunger, and recovers from training. The point isn’t to eliminate stress (impossible). The point is to build buffers and recovery practices into your daily life so the cost stays manageable.
Habits are the only thing that compounds
Motivation is unreliable. Discipline is finite. Habits are what’s left when motivation runs out, and they’re what makes the difference between someone who falls off after the first hard week and someone who’s still training, eating well, and feeling strong five years from now. Most of my coaching is structured around the small, repeatable behaviors that, layered over time, become how you live.
Lifestyle coaching threads through everything else I do as a coach — it’s the connective tissue between strength training, nutrition, and the larger rhythms of a life that supports your body. The full philosophy and how the pieces fit together is described on the main Camryn Elyse Fitness website.
The research on this is consistent and well-documented. The National Institute on Aging’s overview of healthy aging behaviors describes how combining sleep, physical activity, nutrition, and other lifestyle factors substantially shapes long-term health outcomes.
How Health and Lifestyle Coaching Works
Health Coaching
The flagship service in this category. Health coaching is structured around regular check-ins — through Trainerize, by text, and on scheduled phone or Zoom calls — where we explore what’s actually happening in your day-to-day. We look at sleep, stress, recovery, mindset, the quieter biometrics that fitness apps don’t capture, and the gap between what you know you should be doing and what you’re actually doing. The work is collaborative, evidence-based, and grounded in the principles of behavior change rather than willpower.
Health coaching pairs especially well with strength training and nutrition coaching, because the same coach is then watching every input — the lifts, the food, the sleep, the stress — and can adjust the levers that are most likely to move the needle for you specifically.
Habit Coaching
Habit coaching is the practical engine inside health coaching. Most clients don’t need more information — they need a different relationship with the small, daily decisions that compound into outcomes. Habit coaching uses the science of behavior change (cue, routine, reward; identity-based change; environment design) to help you build the specific habits that support the body and life you’re working toward. We start small, layer slowly, and choose battles strategically. The goal isn’t to overhaul your life in 30 days. The goal is to build habits that hold for thirty years.
Wellness Consultation
Wellness consultations are deeper, single-session conversations — useful for clients who want a comprehensive look at where things are and where to focus, without committing to ongoing health coaching yet. We talk through your current state, your goals, and the specific levers most likely to move things for you. You walk away with a clear picture of priorities and a concrete starting point. Wellness consultations are also useful for clients who want a check-in or a recalibration after a life change — a new job, a move, a season of caregiving — has shifted what your body and life need.
Lifestyle Coaching
Lifestyle coaching is the broadest umbrella in this category. It encompasses sleep, stress, recovery, daily rhythms, time use, and the ways your environment and routines are working for you or against you. For some clients, lifestyle coaching looks like sleep hygiene work and a wind-down routine. For others, it’s rebuilding a relationship with rest after years of grinding. For others, it’s the granular work of redesigning a daily schedule that doesn’t leave room for the practices you say you value. The format adapts to what your life is actually asking for.
What Clients Say
What Makes the Coaching Different

Master Certified Health Coach Credentials
I completed Master Certified Health Coach training in March 2025 — the most rigorous tier of health coach certification, grounded in evidence-based behavior change methodology rather than wellness-influencer pseudoscience. Combined with my ACE-Certified Personal Trainer credential and four years as a Registered Yoga Teacher, the result is a coaching approach that integrates physical training, nutrition, and lifestyle work in a single, coherent framework.
Whole-Person, Long-Game Coaching
Most fitness coaching focuses on training and nutrition. Most wellness coaching focuses on lifestyle and mindset but lacks the physical-training infrastructure to make changes stick. The integration of all three is rare, and it’s the thing my clients consistently say makes the biggest difference. We’re not just dialing in workouts. We’re building a life that supports a strong body for decades.
Honest Scope
Health coaching is not therapy, medical care, or psychiatric treatment. I work with healthy adults pursuing lifestyle, behavior, and wellness goals. If a client’s situation calls for clinical mental health care, medical management, or therapeutic intervention beyond my scope, I refer out. That clarity protects clients and keeps the coaching relationship doing what it’s actually good for.
Where Group Sessions Happen
Health and lifestyle coaching is delivered remotely — by phone, Zoom, and through Trainerize — which means clients anywhere can access the work. Most of my coaching clients are also doing in-person training at the Sports Arena Blvd studio in San Diego’s Midway district, just minutes from Point Loma, Ocean Beach, Mission Hills, Bay Park, Mission Valley, Hillcrest, Bankers Hill, North Park, and the surrounding neighborhoods.
The Camryn Elyse Promise
I don’t make guarantees about specific outcomes, because every body, schedule, and life is different. What I do promise:
Coaching that meets you where you actually live, not where a generic protocol assumes you should be.
Honest, evidence-based methodology — no fads, no influencer protocols, no claims I can’t back up.
Clear scope. If your situation calls for clinical care I can’t provide, I’ll tell you and refer you to someone who can.
What Happens Next
Every coaching relationship starts with a 20-minute phone call. No pitch, no pressure — just a conversation about what you’re looking for, what’s worked and hasn’t worked before, and whether health coaching, lifestyle work, or one of the other services is the right starting point for what you need.
This is long-game work. I’ll meet you where you are, and we’ll go from there.
